GemWallet vs XAMAN vs Crossmark: Which XRPL Wallet Should You Use?

February 18, 2026 · 7 min read · By OnRampDLT Team

If you're issuing tokens on the XRP Ledger, your wallet choice matters in two ways: it affects your own experience as an issuer, and it shapes the onboarding experience you can offer your holders.

All three leading XRPL wallets — GemWallet, XAMAN, and Crossmark — connect to OnRampDLT. But they work differently, target different users, and support different features. Here's what you need to know.

GemWallet — The Developer's Choice

GemWallet
Browser Extension
Clean, fast Chrome extension Best-in-class JS SDK One-click trust line approval Open source codebase No mobile app Desktop-only
Best for: Desktop users, developers building XRPL apps, issuers who want a clean SDK. GemWallet's JavaScript library is the smoothest developer experience on XRPL — connect, sign transactions, and trigger trust lines programmatically with clean async/await APIs. If you're building a web app on top of XRPL, start with GemWallet.

XAMAN (formerly XUMM) — The Mobile King

XAMAN
iOS + Android
Best mobile UX on XRPL QR code signing flows Full DEX trading in-app Tangem + Ledger hardware support Deep link trust line flows No browser extension
Best for: Mobile users, retail investors, non-technical holders. XAMAN (the rebranded XUMM) is what most XRPL users outside of developer circles are using. Its QR code signing flow and deep link support make trust line onboarding frictionless on mobile. If your investors are holding on their phones, XAMAN is what they're using.

Crossmark — The Power User Extension

Crossmark
Browser Extension
Advanced transaction support Multi-account management Strong Ledger hardware support Actively developed Smaller user base Less mainstream recognition
Best for: Power users managing multiple XRPL accounts, developers who need advanced transaction types. Crossmark handles more complex XRPL transaction types well and has strong Ledger hardware wallet integration — great for issuers managing their cold wallet signing.

Which Should You Recommend to Your Token Holders?

This depends on who your holders are:

  • Non-technical retail investors → Recommend XAMAN. The mobile UX is unmatched for first-time XRPL users. The app guides them through trust lines with clear UI.
  • Crypto-native desktop users → GemWallet or Crossmark. Both are solid Chrome extensions.
  • Institutional or accredited investors → XAMAN with Tangem or Ledger, or Crossmark with Ledger. Hardware wallet support matters for larger holdings.

The smart play: support all three in your distribution flow. OnRampDLT does exactly this — your token distribution page shows connection buttons for all three wallets, so holders use whatever they already have.

What About Other Wallets?

There are other XRPL wallets — XRPL.org's browser-based wallet, Bithomp, Toast Wallet (discontinued but still used). For new token projects, we recommend only supporting the three above. They're actively maintained, have SDKs, and represent the vast majority of active XRPL wallet users.

OnRampDLT supports all three.

Your token distribution page connects to GemWallet, XAMAN, and Crossmark out of the box. Your holders use the wallet they already have.
